In my last blog, I talked about animals slaughtered for furs. Owen asked if the killing of animals would be fine if the methods of doing so where improved. Personally, I think the massive slaughter of animals to suffice for the human population is terrible, but we won't go into that. Since there will always be people who want REAL fur, the ways of putting down an animal should be painless for them. It's only fair, right? And this comes to my mind: animal abuse. There are many reasons why people abuse animals. The consequences for animal abuse should greater, to help prevent it from even happening. One man in Denver faced up to two years in jail and a $5000 fine. Perhaps if people had worse outcomes from animal abuse, things would be different for the better.
I am with you that there should be harsher penalties for animal abuse, but whenever money is involved it won't be viewed as abuse, especially in other countries. There will be just as many people that are for it as there are against it, and each side will justify their position on the matter.

Death penalty is a possible outcome for someone who murders so i dont believe that raising the penalty would work. Its all about peoples beliefs and values. Some dont believe that an animal life is as important as a humans. You have to chnage the person rather than the penalty. here is blog about why he would rather wear fur because it doesnt see anything wrong with it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2007/mar/19/whyfurishumane
ReplyDeleteI think that you have a good point about raising the punishment for animal cruelty. The fact that we are using the animal's fur for a coat is a sad fact. The punishment for using so many lives should have a higher toll on the people who commit the crime. I wish that more people would care and make a difference but that is simply just not a fact. Not everyone has the same views about animals and it would be hard to get anything passed to change the way it is handled. The ways will probably never change and it is very sad that it will not. http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-clothing/fur.aspx
