I grew up in a religious household, so at first my views on homosexual marriage was very judgmental, but as I grew older that perception started to change. Homosexuals are not creatures, they are human beings, they do everything that a noraml everyday American does. One thing to remember is that God made everybody different, so people may not have the same ideals as everybody else, and it would be wrong of us to judge them for doing so. In the article Four Reasons to Support Gay Marriage and Oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment by Tom Head, he uses statistics to show that the support for gay marriage is steadily increasing each year. Society may actaully be warming up to the idea of gay marriage. As time has progressed, the radical opposers against gay marriage has passed and the disdain for it has substained.
If you fall in love with someone, no matter their race, religion, or gender, you should be able to spend the rest of your life with that person without any kind of ridiculing, or possibly fearing of your life. Most people reason for their disdain for gay marriage is the interpretation of the Bible. It is true that God made man and woman but you can't tell people what to do with their life. It also mentions to never judge anyone, and as a society we need to do better with that.
i agree to this because i have a cousin and she is gay and we dont treat her no different from any of my other cousins. just cause she gay doesnt mean we have to treat her different she has always been my cousin and she always be my cousin. somepeople may consider having a gay cousin is a bad thing but i believe that it actually helps me in becoming a better person because as i see her ever chance i get i see she is happy with with her girl friend and i would be upset and pissed off if someone tried to talk about my cousin or mess around and mess up her happiness just cause she has different feelings about the opposite sex. so i agree with this not just because of my cousin it just because i feel it would me make me feel better as a person.
ReplyDeleteHappiness is the most important thing in people's lives. Without it, what would would be the reason to live. It wouldn't be any reason. Taking away someone's true love is inhumane. What person doesn't want to see anybody happy especially when it involves family? Everybody wants the best for the family. Homosexuality may have the wrong perception in the public eye. It's the person's decision and if they want to do that or not. If this is what they want to do pursue happpiness then what are we as society to deny them. People are entitiled to their three natural rights: life, liberty, and property. I'm sure that marriage falls under the right of liberty. It is nothing wrong with being gay and pursuing your relationship with them.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is very engaging. It is a topic that I believe will forever be argued and may not ever be accepted completely. When you made the statement, "you should be able to spend the rest of your life with that person" I think that brought the main point of the situation which is acceptance. No one is really stopping them from continuing their relationships as homosexuals, they just aren't making it legal for them to be married. Acceptance ties into this because homosexuals want to be accepted in everything that they do and that probably will never happen. What they are failing to realize is heterosexuals aren't even accepted in everything. Look at interracial relationships, they are still looked down upon even though its perfectly legal. I believe that love has no eyes, which means that you can fall in love with anyone you just have to be secure and comfortable in your relationship regardless of who accepts it or not. As far as religion and freedom goes, every one in the world don't have the same beliefs and though being homosexual is frowned upon by society, the decision is still theirs and I believe that their happiness as "people" and not "creatures" should be most important. They should be free practice homosexuality, but I don't believe marriage rights should be granted to them.
ReplyDeleteI do understand your points, and yes people should be free to practice homosexuality. If they are free to practice it, then why can't marriage rights be granted to them. That's like saying you won't get face any consequences if you steal from a store, but you still get arrested after doing so. It does depend on the happiness of individuals and people acceptance of it. It will never be accepted but it should be, but I do believe that if happiness is a factor, then it should be widely accepted, and people should be able to marry if they are homosexuals.
