Miami Heat, Contender's or Pretender's? (part 3)

With all of the hype surrounding the Miami Heat this off season, most sports fans want to know if this team is a legitimate threat to knock off the Los Angeles Lakers as the next NBA champions. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this team, there are too many egos, they don’t have enough supporting players, and they don’t have a coach with a back bone who can hold them together. All of these are great reasons to bet against the Heat, but will they hold up when the season finally comes around. There are some people that pose the argument that if the Celtics “Big 3” could do it in 2008, why cant the Heat? Just like the Heat, the Celtics brought together three superstar players to try to win a Title.  Although this worked out perfectly for the Celtics, there are a few main reasons why it will not work as well for the Heat. First, the Celtics were built with three veteran players that were willing to do anything to win. The Heat’s superstars are still in the beginning stages of their careers, which means that they are still all about themselves. One day they will wise up and play together, but this will not happen in the upcoming NBA season. The next reason that the Celtics were a success is the fact that none of their big three had ever one a Title. They had all been in the league for many years giving everything they had, but getting nothing in return. This fact tells us that they would have done anything just to win something before they retired. The Heats “Big 3” is a talented team with all the ability in the world to win a title, but although they might think they are, they are not willing do anything and to give up everything to win. So in the question of contenders or pretenders, the Miami Heat are most definitely pretenders for the 2011 NBA Championship.

  1. I believe that the Miami Heat are contenders. A question to ask oneself is while performing a task, will you prefer to conquer it the easiest way or a harder way? Well honestly, I would prefer conquering a task the easier way. I use this metaphor to point out that maybe if each player would have stayed with their ex-team, they could have all found roll players to help them win individual championships eventually. But they felt that their chances were much better if the three of them ganged up together with the help of a few other players to win a NBA championship. It was discussed that the Heat does not have enough roll players, well Mike Miller is an amazing three point specialist that will help contribute to some of the Heats success. The Heats three superstars James, Wade, and Bosh are best known for their ability to score points. I believe the Heat will base who will take the lead on offense depending on the team that they are playing. For example, if they feel that LeBron James has a weaker defender guarding him, they will go through him to help create offense. And the same goes for the other two superstars. The Heat having the access to three players who are able to score with ease helps enhance their chances to win a NBA title.

  2. No way the Miami Heat are contenders for sure. I just think your not a Heat fan or jealous that your team didn't get three super stars this year. The Heat are loaded this year age had nothing to do with it. These guys are dedicated and have what it takes to win and prove everyone wrong. Yes there young but thats what makes it even better its time for the NBA to get a shake and i think the Heat has what it takes to win the whole thing. Even though i don't agree with your argument. I do think that you did a great job at expressing your opinion and i think you supported you claim well. i liked your title and your picture tied into your comparison to the Celtics. Good job but the Heat are going all the way my friend!!

  3. The Miami Heat have put themselves in position to win a championship by acquiring three of the top ten best players in the league. The question now is how will they deal with the added pressure of being expected to win every game because of that? They will get extra criticism for each regular season game they lose. It has already started in the preseason. The Heat recently lost a preseason game to the Atlanta Hawks, but it seemed more like a regular season game. The attendance was twice as much as a normal preseason game with celebrities in the crowd also. Looks like it's going to be a great season!

  5. The Miami Heat are definitely contenders. Just like the Big 3 in Boston, the three in Miami want to win too. Even though Dwayne Wade has a ring, the other two don't and they have that drive and will power to win one for themselves. I have to disagree with you when you said that they are not willing to do anything and give up evrything to win. All three of them took less money just to get together. That lets you know that they aren't in it for the money, they wanna win. I'm not saying that they are gonna go undefeated the whole season because the Big 3 in Boston didn't, but I do know that if they play together they can wn the NBA Championship Title.
