Skateboarders = Dangerous Athletes

As noted in my first post, I provided much information that proved that skateboarders are very dangerous athletes. They endure daily challenges that test their abilities as professional and street skaters. Even though there are many dangers, that didn't stop me from deciding to skate.
There were many fair, argumentative, key points made in the response to my blog. Overall, the argument was, "Would this sport be as dangerous if everyone wore the proper protective gear?". My answer? Yes, skateboarding is still a very dangerous sport. Regardless of the amount of protective gear, skaters are still able to fall in the wrong position and/or injure parts of their body that aren't covered. The reader stated that the careless injuries that I mentioned in my first blog could be avoided by having more skateboarders wear protective gear. Though, the truth is that many of us are not willing to do that. According to a retrospective study done by a district hospital in the UK, the distal radius was the most common fractured bone and most skateboarding-related injuries happened during the summer. They also found that out of 50 patients, most of them were males under the age of 15. The results explain how the protective gear takes away from the "dare devil" aspect of skateboarding.

I feel as though skateboarding is a constantly evolving extreme sport that will continuously catch others eyes. Yes, there is much practice needed to master it and to not make careless mistakes. Yes, it's fun and helps with meeting others with your same interests socially through skating. Yet, no one is to ever under estimate the power of skating. No one knows how badly some skaters are treated by police and other city officials. Just see ihateskateboarding.com! It's in the name. This guy has been harassed and has even gotten a "skateboarding ticket" for not wearing a helmet at a skate park. Well, we'll save that for another day. Just keep in mind that us skaters have a right to this sport just as any other sport. Who cares if some of us don't wear helmets? It's our own fault...whatever the result is.

Feminists Are All Lesbian Man-haters That Yell About Nonsense, Right?

While the classic jokes about female drivers and blondes and big girls and tomboys may be told in plain good fun, I feel they promote an injustice against women. I think that women should reject the stereotypes our culture tries to squeeze us into so that we can rise to our full potential. So here is where my overall rage lays. Women continue putting up with a set of jokes and stereotypes that they don’t want to laugh along with. The jokes are purely sexist, totally cliché and simply not funny. And we put up with them because if we don’t laugh along, we automatically become humorless lesbians or man-hating feminists.

One recurring feature of feminist discussion about pejorative speech is that the person with the lesser power gets to decide what is offensive to them, and that we should be listening to their voices, not those of the dominant group. In the case of sexist language, women have the voices that count, the voices that all need to listen to. For racist speech, women of colour. For classist speech, poor women. For disablist speech, disabled women. For anti-lesbian speech, lesbian women. Fattist speech, fat women. And so on, and so on."

The fact is that discrimination is illegal and awareness is rising. This is not a country in which women are legally prohibited from voting any more, or not permitted from having certain jobs. We just use the media to show that some aspect of life shouldn’t be considered ordinary for women. We do not have endemic discrimination, we merely have localized sexist humor, a slight employment bias, and a drop bigotry now and then.

Animal Cruelty: Furs

Animal furs are well loved by people who enjoy their soft, gorgeous coat. Nothing wrong with that, right? Maybe the fact that the fur industry kills over 50 million animals a year might sway your opinion. Trapped in cages for the short time of their lives, to be killed by gassing, poisoning, electrocution, breaking of the neck, or even by shoving a red hot iron rod into their anus.

So if the act of creating these furs are so cruel, why does it continue? Perhaps most people are just oblivious. Or maybe they just don't care. And the people who slaughter these animals do not even think about their rights. Why do people find it's okay to kill animals? When an animal kills a human, everyone flips and the animal executed immediately. Yet animals are killed by humans by the millions each year.

I personally feel that animal slaughter is justified by the fact that humans feel superior to other animals, because we are "intelligent". And if animals cannot speak up for themselves, there is nothing wrong with doing away with them for our own benefit.

Animals are suffering an injustice daily due to slaughter, for such an egotistical reason. Is a fur coat that could easily be replaced with a high-quality material that is warmer than fur worth all this torture?

3D Rules the World!

In my previous blog, I explained the definitons of 3D animation and three dimension. I also stated the advantages, the benefits, and the precious time that is spent on creating three-dimensional items. We all know that 3D used for entertainment and is mostly used to attract viewers. But as I informed you in my last blog, 3d is also beneficial, as said by John Artuo, "The process of 3D modeling allows artists to learn a variety of techniques and forms to create models, animation and even visualizations. As these artists are taught varying techniques, productivity increases as each technique is best for create specific types of the models." This quote indicates that people who use the software, like artistics, generally learns numerous techniques while creating the dimension. But before there was a 3D, 2D was catching attention but as the economy and technology increases, 2D wasn't beneficial enough. That's when 3D stepped in. Don't get me wrong, 3D was invented by William Fetter, in 1976 but it has become so useful by 2006.

They ask why 3D, and why not 2D, what people fail to realize is that 3D has everything that 2D lacks. Starting with the fact that 3D means three-deminsional and 2D mean two-dimensional. Which simply means, two-deminsionals are flat and only very few deepness, features and the overall outlook of the object is pretty much bland (cartoonish). On the other hand, three-deminsional most certainly gives an improved (more realistic) picture of the object, it gives a variety of views. Hopefully your question was answered and you are now aware of the huge difference.

3D has taken some of the stress off of calculations and errors arounf the world. Little do people in the world fail to realize but without the unmanageable complications.

3D has not only, made difficult tasks manageable but has even out the time consumed on animation rather then doing it tw0-dimensional. So not only is 3D catching to the eye, better known as attractive but it is also used towards serious, life threatning tasks and education.

Babies Having Babies

Nationally, nearly one million young women under age 20 become pregnant each year. That means close to 2800 teens get pregnant each day.( Facts in Brief: Teen Sex and Pregnancy, The Alan Guttmacher Institute, New York, 1996). The standard statistics for how many babies born every minute in the U.S. is roughly at eight babies a minute. Out of every eight babies born in that minute six belong to women of the age 20 and under.

In my last article i talked about the rising increase of teen pregnancy in America and everyone who commented seem to have the same intake on the situation. Ericka Jackson stated that "I think that is so true. Either they are pregnant or trying to get pregnant."(about hollywood role models) She even listed a website that gives a list of teens role models of today who think babies are accessories. Its crazy how teen girls in hollywood, who are suppose to be role models for little girls actually get pregnant. (hint hint Jamie Lynn Spears) This just shows little girls that having kids at a young age is cool, which it isn't. Why can't we have hollywood teen role models tell little girls that its okay to go to school and get a education, or hey join some after school activities such as sports,clubs,etc. so that you can stay active, even how about read a book. The way things or going, i wouldn't be surprise if girls from ages 13-15 in the next few years have the highest pregnancy rates.

Homeward Bound: Journey from Afghanistan

In a previous blog post entitled Homeward Bound: Journey form Afghanistan, I discussed the decline of American support for the war in Afghanistan in relation to the collective time that the troops have been deployed. One reader, however, expressed concern as to why American’s support for the war would shift. There are a number of reasons. As stated in last weeks post, one of these reasons is the unexpectedly long time period that soldiers have been overseas. Another reason is the media’s continued outpour of controversy involved with the war efforts. The most recent of such controversy being accusations that U.S. soldiers have made sport of murdering Afghan-civilians.

The controversy first came to light after one of the five murder suspects, Adam Winfield, reported the incidents to authorities. According to Winfield, as recounted by David Griffin of CNN in the article entitled Army may have known in February about Afghan murder, the murders committed had been premeditated and were even bragged about after the fact. Griffin’s article also provides a video of Winfield’s Army interrogation in which he communicates the happenings of the murders to the interrogating officer. Since then, there has been increased media coverage on the topic and hearings to determine whether the suspects will go to trial have begun.

Jeremy Morlock is the first of the murder suspects to have had a hearing. In Hearing begins in alleged plot to murder Afghans, an article by the associated press, the proceedings of Morlock’s hearing are chronicled. The associated press puts forth more information about the case in statements that “members of the platoon mutilated Afghan corpses and even collected fingers and other body parts, and that some posed for photos with Afghan corpses.” This being said, how could Americans continue to support this war.

As Americans we trust our military to protect us from foreign threats, and build strong ties with others. We do not expect to be that foreign threat, that malicious entity that commits war crimes against innocent individuals. If war crimes like those stated previously are taking place at a time when we expect our troops to be helping Afghan civilians, then how can we continue to support the idea of soldiers remaining in Afghanistan. There is a line in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Night which reads, "Either you die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Americans don’t want to be the villain of the world; therefore, support for the war in Afghanistan is waning.

Euthanasia..is it murder? Part 2

Even though I definitely see all of the points everyone made and they were really good ones I still stand by what I said about euthanasia not being a good thing. The doctors and nurses that perform the euthanasia are not God. God is the only person that chooses when someone is suppose to die and how it's suppose to happen. Also, the point that was made about the animals I can't really agree with. Animals even though are very, very dear to my heart are not the same as a human. My dog was sick for a while and the vet in our town didn't really know what was wrong with him but never really did anything about it, he kept getting worse and my daddy took him to a vet in the town next to us and they did blood work on him and found out that he had cancer and it was really bad. They put him to sleep immediately and I didn't know anything about it and didn't get to say goodbye to him. Even though that was a really sad part of my life and I miss my dog very much I just can't see that being the same thing as if that was happening to say my grandmother.
